Hi,

1- Do you have to keep your car insurance certificate with you when you drive?
2- If you are asked by the police and you don't have the original certificate with you. Will they issue a challan to you?
3- Is the photocopy of the certificate would do the needfull?

My dad is the policy holder and he doesn't keep the certificate in the car, instead it is kept in a safe place.

Thanks!
Narendra

Hi,

1- Do you have to keep your car insurance certificate with you when you drive?

It's a legal requirement as per motor vehicle act, So when you are driving on the public road you have to show it to Police.

So carrying the photocopy would not do the right thing. They (police) may issue you a challan. Cover note is advisable as proof of current insurance.
But better talk to your dad and tell him the legal thing, he will understand .

Always keep original certificate with you. Can keep photocopy at home. Well at any time you can ask insurance company for duplicate copy of your insurance certificate, which they issue after charging nominal fee.
